A Roblox clothing template looks like a sheet of colored boxes until it wraps around an avatar. Then every box becomes a sleeve, torso panel, waistband, or pant leg. Miss the edge by a few pixels and your crisp jacket suddenly has a seam running through the elbow. Digital tailoring has fitting-room problems too.
This guide covers Roblox classic clothing: the 2D shirts and pants that wrap around block-style avatars. It is different from Roblox’s newer layered clothing, which uses 3D models. If you are curious about the bigger picture, AFTV’s guide to digital fashion explains how avatar wardrobes fit into the wider virtual-clothing economy.

Free Roblox clothing template downloads
Roblox provides one official ZIP file containing both classic-clothing templates. The download is free; Roblox currently charges a separate fee when you upload a classic shirt or pants item.

Which Roblox clothing template do you need?
Roblox classic clothing comes in three types, and this is where many first attempts go sideways:
- Classic T-shirt: a square image, such as 512 × 512 pixels, placed on the front of the avatar’s torso. It does not use the wraparound template.
- Classic shirt: a 585 × 559 template that wraps around the torso and both arms.
- Classic pants: a 585 × 559 template that wraps around the lower torso and both legs.
If you want sleeves, cuffs, a collar, or a design that continues around the body, you need the Roblox shirt template. If you are making jeans, shorts, a skirt-like graphic, or shoes painted into the lower panels, use the pants file.
How the Roblox classic clothing template works
The template is a flat map of a 3D body. Each labeled rectangle belongs to one side of the torso, arm, or leg. Roblox’s official dimensions break the map into four kinds of pieces:
| Template area | Pixel size | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Large square | 128 × 128 | Front and back |
| Tall rectangle | 64 × 128 | Torso sides and the four sides of arms or legs |
| Wide rectangle | 128 × 64 | Up and down panels |
| Small square | 64 × 64 | Top and bottom of arms or legs |
The colored guide is not decoration. It tells you which edges meet after the image wraps around the avatar. Think of it as a sewing pattern with no seam allowance and absolutely no patience for accidental resizing.
How to use a Roblox shirt template
- Download and unzip the official pack. Open
Template-Shirts-R15.pngin an editor that supports layers and transparency. - Keep the canvas at exactly 585 × 559 pixels. Do not crop, stretch, or let an export setting add a border.
- Put your artwork on new layers. Keep the original guide visible while you line up the front, back, sides, sleeves, cuffs, and collar.
- Design across matching edges. A stripe that leaves the front torso should arrive at the same height on the side panel. The same rule applies around each sleeve.
- Check the shoulder and underarm joins. These small transitions expose misaligned patterns faster than a flat preview does.
- Export a PNG. PNG is the practical choice when the design includes transparent areas.
A useful first project is deliberately simple: one solid body color, contrasting sleeves, and a small front graphic. You will see how the map folds without trying to align plaid across six panels on day one. Plaid will still be there when you are ready to argue with it.
Roblox clothing template transparent areas: what to keep
A Roblox clothing template transparent file is still the same 585 × 559 canvas. Transparency changes what appears on the garment; it does not change the template size or panel positions.
Keep these rules in mind:
- Use PNG if you need transparency. JPG does not preserve transparent pixels.
- Keep every panel in its original location, even when part of your design is transparent.
- Do not erase or crop the canvas around the mapped regions.
- Preview cutouts on more than one avatar color. Transparent areas can reveal the avatar underneath, and the result may look very different from the checkerboard in your editor.
Transparency can make convincing sleeveless tops, ripped details, open necklines, or layered-looking graphics. It can also make half a sleeve disappear because the wrong panel was cleared. Test before paying to upload.
Roblox clothing template pants: design without broken seams
The Roblox clothing template pants file uses the same overall canvas size as the shirt file, but the mapped sections wrap around the lower torso and legs. That makes three areas worth extra attention:
- The waistband: keep its height consistent across the front, back, and side torso panels.
- The inner and outer leg seams: line up stripes, washes, piping, or color blocks where adjacent panels meet.
- The ankle: Roblox warns that shoe artwork extending too far up the leg can read as part of the pants. Keep the shoe boundary deliberate and test it on a rig.
Duplicate guides or symmetry tools can save time, but do not mirror text, pockets, or directional graphics without checking them. A back pocket on the front of both legs is certainly a look. It may not be the one you planned.
How to test your clothing in Roblox Studio
Roblox recommends testing classic clothing in Studio before uploading it to the Marketplace. The test itself does not require an upload fee.
- Open Roblox Studio and select Character from the Avatar tab.
- Add a block avatar rig to the workspace.
- In Explorer, add a Shirt, Pants, or ShirtGraphic object to the rig.
- Select the clothing object and find the matching property: ShirtTemplate for a shirt, PantsTemplate for pants, or Graphic for a T-shirt.
- Apply your uploaded test image and rotate the rig. Inspect the front, back, sides, shoulders, underarms, waist, inner legs, and ankles.
A front view can look perfect while the side seam quietly commits a crime. Rotate the avatar.
How to upload a Roblox clothing template
Once the design passes your Studio check, Roblox’s current upload path is:
- Open the Roblox Creator Dashboard.
- Go to Avatar Items, then choose the Classics tab.
- Drag the image into the upload area or choose Upload Asset.
- Select T-Shirt, Shirt, or Pants as the asset type.
- Add the item name and description, then submit it.
The Roblox Creator Hub currently lists an upload fee of 80 Robux per classic-clothing submission. Requirements and fees can change, so the official page is the place to check before you submit.
Why Roblox rejects a clothing upload
The most common technical problem is not glamorous: the image changed size. According to Roblox Support, an editor can shift the dimensions by a pixel or two during editing or export, which may trigger a template error.
Before uploading again, check:
- The shirt or pants canvas is exactly 585 × 559 pixels.
- The file uses a supported format: GIF, PNG, or JPG.
- The template was not cropped or given an extra transparent border.
- Your artwork follows the Roblox Marketplace Policy and Community Standards.
- You own or have permission to use every logo, pattern, character, and image in the design.
Free template does not mean free artwork. The layout is a tool; it is not permission to copy a brand logo or another creator’s design.
Classic clothing is simple. That is why it is useful.
Roblox’s classic template is basic compared with 3D layered clothing, but basic is not the same as irrelevant. You can sketch an idea, test it on an avatar, and learn how a flat design behaves on a moving body without opening Blender.
That low barrier is part of what makes avatar fashion interesting. As we noted in AFTV’s look at current digital-fashion conversations, the tools matter most when they help someone make, test, or wear something, not when they simply promise a glossy virtual future.
Roblox clothing template FAQ
Is the official Roblox clothing template free?
Yes. Roblox provides the classic shirt and pants template files as a free ZIP download. Uploading a finished classic shirt or pants item currently costs 80 Robux per submission.
What size is the Roblox classic clothing template?
The official classic shirt and pants PNG files are 585 × 559 pixels. Keep that full canvas size when you edit and export the design.
Can a Roblox clothing template be transparent?
Yes. Save the design as a PNG to preserve transparent areas, and keep the original canvas dimensions and panel positions unchanged.
Why does Roblox say my clothing image is the wrong size?
Your editor may have cropped the canvas, added a border, or changed the image by one or two pixels during export. Recheck the dimensions and export again without resizing.
What is the difference between classic and layered Roblox clothing?
Classic clothing uses a 2D image that wraps around fixed avatar body sections. Layered clothing is a 3D accessory designed to fit and move over different avatar bodies.
