American Fashion TV (“AFTV,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) publishes fashion journalism, visual stories, interviews, criticism, commentary, cultural coverage, and reporting on technology and new media. These Editorial Standards describe the broad principles that guide our work and the rules that apply to public comments and other community participation.
Effective date: August 25, 2026
Last updated: August 25, 2026
1. Purpose and scope
These standards apply generally to editorial material controlled by AFTV, including articles, interviews, newsletters, photographs, illustrations, graphics, video, audio, social posts, live or recorded programming, and emerging formats. They also provide baseline rules for public comments, replies, reactions, and other audience contributions on AFTV-controlled services.
Different formats require different editorial judgments. A breaking-news item, reported feature, opinion column, product guide, visual essay, sponsored project, satire, archive item, and public comment do not all receive the same process or presentation. AFTV may use standards proportionate to the nature of the material, the information available, the risk of harm, and the practical demands of publication.
These standards are a public description of AFTV’s general approach. They are not a contract, warranty, promise of a particular procedure, or guarantee that every item will be error-free. They do not create a right to publication, continued access, a correction in a particular form, an appeal, compensation, or any other remedy beyond rights provided by applicable law or a controlling written agreement.
2. Editorial authority and discretion
AFTV controls its editorial agenda, coverage priorities, assignments, headlines, presentation, publication timing, distribution, promotion, correction, archiving, and removal decisions. We may decide whether a subject is newsworthy, which facts are material, which sources are credible, how much context is needed, and whether a proposed story is ready to publish.
Submission of a pitch, statement, image, product, invitation, correction request, comment, complaint, or other material does not require AFTV to publish, review, preserve, return, remove, or respond to it. Prior coverage of a person, brand, event, issue, or viewpoint does not create a duty to provide future coverage or equal treatment. We may decline material for editorial, legal, ethical, safety, quality, resource, audience, or operational reasons.
AFTV may revise its editorial methods as formats, technologies, audience needs, and industry practices change. Internal workflows may be more detailed than this public document and may vary by project.
3. Editorial independence and commercial separation
Editorial decisions should be made for editorial reasons. Advertisers, sponsors, affiliate partners, retailers, publicists, subjects, investors, vendors, and other commercial parties do not receive a general right to dictate independent editorial conclusions or obtain favorable coverage.
AFTV may publish advertising, sponsored content, branded content, paid partnerships, affiliate links, product placements, commerce content, or material supported by a commercial relationship. Where disclosure is required or reasonably necessary to avoid misleading readers, the relationship may be identified with language such as “Advertisement,” “Sponsored,” “Paid Partnership,” “Affiliate,” or another context-appropriate label.
Commercial support does not necessarily constitute AFTV’s independent endorsement of a product, service, person, claim, or advertiser. AFTV may reject, edit, label, postpone, restrict, or remove commercial material. Advertisers and suppliers remain responsible for the accuracy, legality, substantiation, rights, offers, products, and services they provide. More information may appear in our Advertising information and Terms and Conditions.
4. Accuracy, verification, and context
AFTV aims to publish information that is accurate, fairly presented, and supported at the time of publication. The level of verification may depend on the significance of the claim, the reliability and accessibility of sources, the publication format, and the risk that an error could cause harm.
Editorial review may include checking names, titles, dates, quotations, locations, documents, recordings, captions, image origins, public records, official statements, product details, and other material facts. We may consult primary sources, subject-matter specialists, eyewitnesses, recognized institutions, reputable reporting, or multiple independent sources. No review process can guarantee that every error, omission, manipulation, conflict, or outdated fact will be detected.
Fashion, technology, media, business, culture, product availability, prices, event schedules, social-media content, and public statements can change quickly. A fact that was accurate when published may later become incomplete or outdated. AFTV may update, clarify, annotate, correct, archive, or remove material when appropriate, but we do not promise that every historical page will be continuously revised.
5. Sources, attribution, and evidence
AFTV may rely on interviews, original documents, official announcements, direct observation, public records, research, data, photographs, recordings, archives, social posts, press materials, licensed content, third-party reporting, and other sources. The weight given to a source depends on its proximity to the facts, expertise, independence, track record, transparency, and potential conflicts.
We seek to distinguish verified fact from allegation, opinion, estimate, forecast, promotional language, and interpretation when that distinction is material. Company claims, campaign metrics, product statements, sustainability claims, survey results, and forecasts may be attributed to the party responsible for them rather than presented as independently established facts.
AFTV may quote, excerpt, summarize, paraphrase, link to, or describe source material as permitted by law and editorial practice. Attribution may appear in the article, caption, credit, link, video, audio, metadata, or another form suited to the format. A link is not necessarily an endorsement, and the absence of a link does not necessarily mean a source was not consulted.
6. Anonymous and confidential sources
AFTV generally prefers sources who can be identified, but anonymity may be considered when a source has meaningful information and identification could create a credible risk of retaliation, legal exposure, loss of employment, personal harm, or another substantial consequence. We may consider the source’s access to the information, motive, corroboration, and whether the audience can be given useful context without revealing identity.
A request for anonymity, confidentiality, off-the-record treatment, embargo, or background use is not accepted merely because material was sent to AFTV. Any special condition should be agreed with an authorized AFTV representative before disclosure. AFTV cannot guarantee confidentiality where disclosure is required by law, court order, security necessity, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
7. Interviews, quotations, and prepublication review
We aim to represent interviews and quotations accurately and in context. We may edit quotations for length, clarity, grammar, translation, or format when the edit does not materially change the intended meaning. Transcripts, captions, and translations may contain errors, especially when produced with automated tools, and may be corrected after review.
Interview subjects and sources do not ordinarily receive editorial approval over a finished story, headline, image choice, or publication timing unless AFTV agrees otherwise in writing. We may check a quotation or technical point before publication, but fact-checking a detail does not grant approval over the article. AFTV may decline requested changes that concern tone, opinion, emphasis, or information supported by the reporting.
8. Fairness, criticism, and opportunity to respond
Fairness does not always require equal space, identical treatment, or publication of every response. It requires editorial judgment about relevance, evidence, context, and the seriousness of the claims. When a story includes a significant allegation about an identifiable person or organization, AFTV may seek a response when reasonably practicable and appropriate.
A subject’s refusal to comment, failure to respond before publication, request for delay, or disagreement with the premise does not necessarily prevent publication. AFTV may describe the response received, note that no response was provided, or proceed when the reporting is sufficiently supported. We may update a story if a meaningful response arrives later.
Criticism of designs, collections, campaigns, public conduct, business decisions, cultural impact, or industry practices is part of editorial coverage. Strong disagreement, negative review, or unflattering analysis is not by itself an error requiring correction.
9. News, analysis, opinion, reviews, and satire
AFTV may publish reported news, analysis, criticism, reviews, essays, columns, predictions, commentary, humor, satire, and other forms of expression. Context, labels, bylines, section placement, tone, and presentation may help readers understand the format, but not every statement of opinion will carry a separate label.
Opinions belong to the person or entity expressing them and do not necessarily represent AFTV, its owners, staff, advertisers, partners, or other contributors. Reviews and recommendations may reflect editorial judgment at a particular time and may change as products, information, prices, or experience change.
10. Headlines, summaries, thumbnails, and social media
Headlines, excerpts, captions, thumbnails, alerts, and social posts are concise presentations of larger works. They may use emphasis, wordplay, questions, or strong framing, but should not materially misrepresent the underlying content.
Third-party platforms may crop images, shorten text, remove labels, reorder context, or display older versions. AFTV does not control how every platform, search engine, embed, archive, screenshot, or repost presents our material. Readers should consult the full AFTV page for the current context and any correction or update.
11. Corrections, clarifications, updates, and removals
AFTV may correct a material factual error, clarify ambiguous wording, add context, update a developing story, repair a caption or link, change a headline, replace media, or otherwise revise published content. The form of the change depends on its significance, age, visibility, potential harm, and the needs of the format.
Minor spelling, grammar, style, formatting, link, or production changes may be made without a correction note. A material correction may be identified in the article or through another reasonably visible method. AFTV decides whether a change is warranted and how it should be described. A correction does not necessarily imply fault, negligence, or legal liability.
AFTV is not generally obligated to remove accurate published material simply because a subject later dislikes it, circumstances change, or search results remain visible. We may restrict, archive, de-index, anonymize, update, or remove material when we believe action is appropriate for legal, privacy, safety, ethical, rights, source-protection, editorial, or operational reasons. Copies may remain in caches, archives, syndication systems, screenshots, backups, or third-party services outside AFTV’s control.
Requests should identify the exact URL, disputed statement or media, proposed correction, supporting evidence, and the requester’s relationship to the matter. Submission of a request does not guarantee a response, change, removal, or particular timeline.
12. Photography, video, audio, and visual editing
AFTV may crop, resize, color-correct, retouch, composite, caption, enhance, restore, translate, subtitle, reframe, or otherwise edit visual and audio material for editorial, creative, accessibility, technical, or format reasons. Routine production work does not necessarily receive a separate disclosure.
When an alteration materially changes documentary meaning or could reasonably lead an audience to misunderstand whether a person, garment, product, place, statement, or event is real, AFTV may provide context or a label appropriate to the format. Illustrations, collages, reenactments, archival material, renderings, conceptual images, and promotional images should not automatically be treated as documentary evidence.
Image and media credits reflect information reasonably available at publication. Credits may be corrected when reliable new information is supplied. Publication of third-party material does not transfer ownership to AFTV or waive the rights of the applicable owner.
13. Artificial intelligence and synthetic media
AFTV may use artificial intelligence and automation for research support, transcription, translation, captioning, editing, organization, ideation, search, recommendations, moderation, analytics, creative production, and other editorial or operational purposes. AI systems are not treated as independent witnesses, experts, or final factual authorities.
Human editors and contributors remain responsible for the material AFTV chooses to publish. Materially synthetic or altered content may be disclosed when required by law or when omission could reasonably mislead readers about authenticity, identity, meaning, or evidentiary value. Routine support uses do not necessarily receive a separate label.
AI tools can produce inaccurate, fabricated, biased, incomplete, or rights-sensitive output. AFTV may apply review proportionate to the content and risk, but cannot guarantee that every AI use, error, manipulation, or undisclosed third-party use will be detected. Our Artificial Intelligence and Synthetic Media Policy provides additional information.
14. Intellectual property, permissions, and credits
AFTV respects copyright, trademark, publicity, privacy, contractual, and other applicable rights. Contributors, photographers, filmmakers, artists, agencies, publicists, advertisers, and other suppliers are responsible for providing material they are authorized to submit and for disclosing relevant restrictions, credits, licenses, releases, and third-party interests.
AFTV may rely on representations made by contributors and suppliers. Editorial review or publication does not guarantee that submitted material is original, non-infringing, or free from competing claims. If credible rights information becomes available, AFTV may investigate, update a credit, add context, restrict use, replace material, preserve evidence, or remove material as appropriate.
Copyright complaints should follow the process in our Terms and Conditions.
15. Privacy, dignity, safety, and vulnerable people
Editorial value may be weighed against privacy, dignity, safety, source protection, and the risk of unnecessary harm. AFTV may limit identifying details, graphic material, private information, or imagery when the public value does not justify the likely harm. Public availability of information does not automatically require republication.
Coverage involving minors, victims, private individuals, intimate material, home addresses, medical information, family circumstances, or credible safety risks may receive additional caution. AFTV may withhold names, blur or crop media, use warnings, decline submissions, or restrict public comments.
AFTV cannot promise that all readers will find every published subject, image, or opinion comfortable or inoffensive. Editorial relevance, artistic expression, historical context, and public interest may support publication of challenging material.
16. Fashion, beauty, health, bodies, and identity
Fashion coverage often intersects with appearance, body image, beauty, wellness, cosmetic procedures, medication, disability, age, race, gender, sexuality, religion, culture, labor, and identity. AFTV may cover these subjects critically, commercially, artistically, or historically while seeking to avoid unnecessary dehumanization, harassment, or unsupported health claims.
Editorial content is provided for general information and does not constitute individualized medical, legal, financial, investment, safety, or other professional advice. References to treatments, products, supplements, medications, procedures, weight, mental health, or wellness should not replace advice from an appropriately qualified professional.
We may use additional sourcing, context, warnings, or moderation for consequential claims. AFTV does not guarantee the safety, suitability, legality, efficacy, availability, or performance of a product, treatment, practice, or recommendation discussed by a contributor, source, advertiser, or commenter.
17. Product, technology, sustainability, and business claims
Claims about product performance, origin, materials, pricing, labor, environmental impact, sustainability, artificial intelligence, technology, sales, investment, market size, or future growth may depend on changing definitions, methods, assumptions, and information supplied by interested parties.
AFTV may attribute such claims, explain limitations, link to available evidence, seek independent context, or decline claims that cannot be responsibly presented. Publication of a company statement, forecast, demonstration, sample, or case study does not mean AFTV independently verified every underlying input or guarantees the same result for others.
18. Conflicts of interest, gifts, samples, and access
Editors and contributors should disclose material relationships that could reasonably affect their work. These may include employment, consulting, investment, family relationships, gifts, travel, event access, free products, affiliate interests, or other financial and personal connections.
AFTV may accept review samples, event access, travel support, production assistance, or other customary industry arrangements when permitted by our policies and agreements. Acceptance does not guarantee coverage, favorable treatment, return of a product, or publication by a particular date. A relevant relationship may be disclosed when required or appropriate.
AFTV may reassign, edit, label, decline, or withdraw work when a conflict cannot be adequately managed. Contributors may be subject to additional internal rules or written agreements.
19. Contributors, freelancers, and submissions
Staff members, freelancers, photographers, filmmakers, agencies, guests, and other contributors may be required to follow assignments, agreements, deadlines, rights terms, disclosure rules, confidentiality obligations, and editorial instructions in addition to these public standards.
Submission or acceptance of material does not guarantee publication, payment, credit, future work, continuing access, or an employment, agency, partnership, or representative relationship. AFTV may edit accepted material for accuracy, clarity, length, tone, structure, legal risk, rights, accessibility, style, and technical requirements, subject to any controlling agreement.
Unsolicited pitches and ideas are not confidential unless AFTV agrees otherwise in writing before submission. AFTV may already be developing similar work and has no obligation to use, compensate, preserve, return, or respond to unsolicited material.
20. Public comments and community participation
AFTV’s comment areas and community features are curated extensions of a privately operated editorial publication. They are not government-operated public forums. AFTV does not promise viewpoint neutrality, equal distribution, publication of every lawful comment, or continued availability of any discussion.
Public comments should be relevant, substantive, and respectful. Disagreement and criticism are welcome when expressed without threats, harassment, deception, or abuse. AFTV may restrict or remove content that it believes includes or facilitates:
- Threats, incitement, stalking, targeted harassment, or encouragement of serious harm;
- Hateful, dehumanizing, or discriminatory attacks based on a protected characteristic;
- Sexual exploitation, abuse, predatory conduct, or sexual content involving minors;
- Private personal information, doxxing, intimate material shared without permission, or information that creates a safety risk;
- Defamation, impersonation, fraud, phishing, fabricated credentials, deceptive synthetic media, or coordinated inauthentic behavior;
- Copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights violations;
- Spam, repetitive posts, affiliate links, undisclosed promotion, commercial solicitation, recruitment schemes, automated posting, or search manipulation;
- Malware, harmful code, instructions for wrongdoing, unlawful transactions, or content that creates legal, security, or operational risk;
- Body shaming, encouragement of eating disorders or self-harm, unlawful medication promotion, deceptive treatment claims, diagnosis of another user, or individualized professional advice presented as authoritative;
- Deliberate thread disruption, irrelevant link dumping, abuse of reporting tools, attempts to dominate discussion, or other conduct that materially reduces the usefulness of the conversation; or
- Any other content or conduct that AFTV reasonably believes may harm users, third parties, the publication, or the operation of its services.
This list is illustrative, not exhaustive. Context matters, and content quoted for reporting, criticism, education, or discussion may be treated differently from content used to endorse or facilitate harm.
21. Comment moderation and enforcement
AFTV may moderate comments before or after publication. We may use human review, automated spam filters, artificial intelligence, keyword or link detection, user reports, rate limits, account history, or third-party moderation services. These systems can make mistakes, and the presence of moderation does not mean every visible comment has been reviewed, verified, or approved.
AFTV may hold, approve, reject, label, edit for technical or formatting reasons, remove links or attachments, limit visibility, close replies, lock or archive a discussion, restrict posting, suspend or terminate accounts, block replacement accounts, preserve evidence, or refer a matter to a service provider, rights holder, or authority. We are not required to use the least restrictive action or apply identical measures in every case.
Except where required by law, AFTV does not guarantee advance notice, a detailed explanation, an opportunity to revise, an appeal, restoration, or a response within a particular period. Failure to act immediately does not mean content is permitted. AFTV may prioritize matters based on severity, recency, visibility, evidence, available resources, and legal or safety obligations.
More detailed account and moderation provisions appear in our Account and Community Participation Policy.
22. Responsibility for comments and public submissions
Commenters are responsible for the content they submit and for having the rights and permissions necessary to submit it. Comments and other user content do not necessarily reflect AFTV’s views. Publication, moderation, highlighting, or failure to remove a comment does not constitute AFTV’s endorsement, verification, adoption, or agreement.
Readers should not rely on public comments as verified facts or professional advice. AFTV does not guarantee the identity, qualifications, accuracy, originality, disclosure practices, or good faith of commenters.
Comments, usernames, profile elements, and other community content may be public, searchable, quoted, copied, archived, screenshotted, or shared by others. Do not submit confidential or sensitive information. AFTV cannot control copies made by users, search engines, web archives, social networks, or other independent services.
23. External links, embeds, and third-party platforms
AFTV may link to or embed material from designers, brands, retailers, social networks, video services, publishers, archives, museums, advertisers, and other independent parties. Links and embeds may be provided for context, attribution, criticism, reporting, convenience, or commercial purposes.
AFTV does not control and is not responsible for the availability, security, accuracy, legality, accessibility, privacy practices, products, services, or later changes of independent third parties. A reference, link, embed, follow, repost, or appearance does not necessarily establish endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, verification, or continuing affiliation.
24. Accessibility and inclusive presentation
AFTV may use captions, transcripts, alt text, descriptive labels, readable structure, color and contrast choices, keyboard support, or other measures to improve access. Accessibility is an ongoing process, and not every item, archive, embed, third-party service, or emerging format will work equally for every person or device.
Requests or reports concerning an access barrier may be sent through our contact page. AFTV may prioritize changes according to impact, feasibility, available technology, legal requirements, and resources.
25. Editorial concerns, complaints, and requests
Questions about accuracy, attribution, rights, privacy, synthetic media, comments, or these standards may be sent through the contact page. To help us review a concern, include:
- The exact AFTV URL or item;
- The statement, image, video, comment, or credit at issue;
- A clear explanation of the concern;
- Reliable supporting evidence or source material;
- Your relationship to the matter; and
- Any immediate legal, privacy, or safety issue.
AFTV may request additional information, preserve relevant records, consult contributors or advisers, and determine whether any action is appropriate. Submission of a concern does not guarantee confidentiality, removal, correction, account action, disclosure of an investigation, or a particular response.
Immediate threats to life or safety should be reported to the appropriate emergency authority rather than relying only on an AFTV contact form. Copyright complaints should follow the process in the Terms and Conditions. Privacy requests are handled under the Privacy Policy.
26. Relationship to other policies
These Editorial Standards should be read with AFTV’s Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, Artificial Intelligence and Synthetic Media Policy, Account and Community Participation Policy, advertising disclosures, contributor agreements, and any content-specific notice.
If these standards conflict with applicable law or a controlling written agreement, the law or controlling agreement will govern. AFTV may apply stricter or more specific standards to a project without revising this public page.
27. Administration and changes
AFTV may interpret and apply these standards using a context-specific and risk-based approach. We may revise, replace, or supplement them as editorial formats, technologies, community risks, business practices, and legal obligations evolve.
We are not required to update this page for every new tool, vendor, platform, contributor role, moderation method, workflow, format, or minor operational change. Material revisions may be reflected by changing the “Last updated” date and providing additional notice where required by law.
Continued use of AFTV’s services after revised standards take effect is subject to the current version and the applicable Terms and Conditions.
